When she graduated in 1992 Amanda Bossard began her studies in marine biology in Anchorage at Alaska Pacific University. Bossard started her commercial fishing career in 1999, when she started working aboard the F/V Sunset. This 65' schooner converted to a salmon tender was operated by Murat Aritan. The fisherman has been in commercial fisherman since 1993. Bossard got married to Aritan in 1999. The couple have teamed up to fight for their business. They are both proponents of conserving renewable and sustainable marine resources. Otolith is a direct wholesale seafood distributor which was founded by a woman in Philadelphia in 2007, by a mother of two kids, Bella aged 3, and Andre age 1. Her husband and she are separated by 5 months plus more to allow her to be focused on her financial goals and the environment. Bossard along with Isabella Andre and Isabella Andre (ages 10 and 12 respectively) are back each year, beginning in July of 2016 and continue to Southeast Alaska for the summer harvest from wild salmon. A troller with a size of 42 is used, the Bossards capture salmon with hooks. They then work with Aritan working in the local processing plant for a couple of weeks.
